Working Theory Farm (WTF) is a nonprofit farm in Hillsboro, Oregon whose mission is to empower youth through the shared work of farming to grow food for partner organizations who distribute this food to families in need. We provide employment training and mentoring to youth navigating the carceral system or other barriers.
Through this shared work we grow a substantial amount of organic fruits and vegetables, the majority of which are distributed by our partners at Centro Cultural to low-income families, many of whom are migrants and/or undocumented.
Over the last six years, we have distributed more than 80,000 pounds of produce and employed more than 40 youth. Through learning to care for plants and animals, responding to a community need, and receiving positive feedback our youth participants begin to see themselves as caretakers and positive forces in the community.
