On Thursday May 8th the Joint Finance Committee voted to remove all funding for child care from the Wisconsin state budget.
Without funding an estimated 25% of child care businesses are predicted to close including 35% of child care businesses in rural areas across the state.
That's why from May 12 - 16 dozens of providers organizing through WECAN (Wisconsin Early Childhood Action Needed), went on strike and descended on the State Capitol in Madison for the week.
Through our strike we were able to get Wisconsin Dems to introduce a new bill, met with dozens of legislators and told our stories in news outlets across the state.
But we haven't won yet. Donate to our strike fund so that we have the resources to go on strike again if we need to and have the resources to organize at the state Capitol in Madison before the budget session ends on June 30th.
