I never imagined running for office. As an educator in Detroit Public Schools, I thought I was preparing to become a superintendent. Then COVID hit, bringing grief and exposing what decades of Lansing’s disinvestment had done to our children, families, and seniors. But we finally saw what real investment looks like: billions of dollars that should have always been there for our schools and community. And when the crisis ended, Lansing went right back to giving us less.

That was my turning point. I’m running because I refuse to accept a system that asks our community to struggle.
