Donate to The Skeens Committee

Hello Neighbor,

I hope all is well. My name is Juwan K. Skeens, and I am a Democratic Candidate running for At-Large Boston City Council. Please donate to the Skeens Committee so we can win this upcoming election on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023!

A little about me, outside my lived experience as an African American Male, I was born and raised with my family who has owned property for over 50 years in Dorchester, with Christ Temple Church of Personal Experience as my childhood Church Home. I am a Boston Public School Graduate from The Joseph Lee School in Dorchester, Timilty Middle School in Roxbury, and Excel High School in South Boston, where I was a Junior Varsity Debate Champion of the Boston Debate League and the Senior Class President of our Student Body. As a Former Neighborhood Liaison to District 4, I was extremely grateful to work alongside then Boston City Council President Andrea Campbell from 2016-2018 and truly honored to serve my community of Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan by attending zoning board meetings and nearly 20 Civic Associations Monthly, with the opportunity to connect both Neighbors and Businesses to City, State, and Federal resources to resolve our concerns.

After my work on the Boston City Council, From 2018 - 2020, I served as BCYF/Jackson Mann Community Center Youth Worker, managing both a Teen Program, serving our youth, ages 13-18 years old and their entrepreneurial business venture Boston Body Butter, where they were presented with Citations on the Boston City Council floor. From Dec. 2020 - June 2021, I served as a Covid Community Educator for The Boston Project Ministries, helping our families navigate through the pandemic. Currently, I’ve been nominated to serve as an Affiliated Board Member of the Codman Square Neighborhood Council since December 2022, and have been deemed a Community Hidden Hero. Since July 2020, I have served as a Community Organizer for my neighborhood's non-profit Redefining Our Community (ROC) Neighborhood Association, which was founded in 2009, following the innocent murder of Steven P. Odom, the youngest son of Ron and Kim Odom, when we both were 13 Years Old in 2007. As a Community Organizer for ROC, I have led two petitions, managing the Norfolk Street Bridge and its Facebook page since September 2020, in order to document and track the Improvements to our overall Public Safety, and in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic, I am the Director of our community-led Life Skills Training and Wellness Center, which will collaborate with our supporting Associations and Councils to both educate and build generational wealth and wellness for years to come, as 872 Morton Street is set to complete construction by October 2023!

What I’ve learned is that, when we are not at the table, then we are on the menu! As a constituent and active voter within the City of Boston, I have both a right and a duty to always make sure that both my community and I are represented and that we always have a seat at the table. Teamwork Makes The Dream Work and Together We Are Possible!
