It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve as a school board member with Las Cruces Public Schools. In just over two years on the board, we have strengthened district leadership, advanced student achievement, improved campus safety, and tackled long-standing transportation challenges.
Public education has shaped every part of who I am. My mother was a teacher in Detroit Public Schools, and I am a proud product of public schools myself. Much of my professional career has been dedicated to supporting educators and students—working with the American Federation of Teachers New Mexico gave me firsthand insight into the critical work staff members do every single day. On a personal level, LCPS has profoundly impacted my family as well—my daughter, now entering her senior year, has been shaped in countless positive ways by her teachers, peers, and this community.
Outside of the school board, I serve as Executive Director of Friends of Organ Mountains–Desert Peaks, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving our public lands and creating opportunities for young people to experience the outdoors. A large part of our work focuses on afterschool programming, and those experiences have directly informed my commitment to expanding and improving afterschool opportunities for LCPS students.
While we have made real progress, there is still much to do. I am committed to continuing the work of building the school district our students deserve. In these politically divisive times, our schools need leaders who are willing to stand strong for students, teachers, and staff against unfair attacks. I have done that, and I will continue to do so.
Our mission is clear: ensure every LCPS student has the opportunity to thrive. That means safe and welcoming schools, empowered teachers and staff, and strong afterschool programs accessible to every student.
Your support makes this possible. Any contribution—big or small—helps us continue the fight to build the school system our students deserve.
