Despite these challenges, Mayor Thao got to work reviving Oakland’s groundbreaking Ceasefire Program, investing in new 9-1-1 infrastructure and hiring, redeploying walking officers and traffic enforcement, securing additional CHP support thanks to her partnership with Governor Gavin Newsom, committing a record $350 million into affordable housing, passing a historic general plan, and balancing Oakland’s budget without any layoffs or major cuts to critical public safety services.
