Donate to Oaklanders Defending Democracy, Oppose the Recall of Mayor Thao (Thao Ballot Measure Committee)

Sworn in on January 9th, 2023, Mayor Sheng Thao stepped into office amongst rising crime rates, a failing 9-1-1 system, rising homelessness, a devastating ransomware attack, and a record budget deficit caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite these challenges, Mayor Thao got to work reviving Oakland’s groundbreaking Ceasefire Program, investing in new 9-1-1 infrastructure and hiring, redeploying walking officers and traffic enforcement, securing additional CHP support thanks to her partnership with Governor Gavin Newsom, committing a record $350 million into affordable housing, passing a historic general plan, and balancing Oakland’s budget without any layoffs or major cuts to critical public safety services. This work is yielding positive change, and Oakland is getting back on track.

Now one Piedmont hedge fund manager has paid thousands of out-of-town signature gatherers to put a recall on the ballot that will cost taxpayers MILLIONS in an attempt to buy themselves a Mayor who will do their bidding. And Oakland is fighting back
