Donate to Miranda Briseño's Campaign for Medford City Council

I'm Miranda Briseño (she/her); I'm a renter, transportation planner and public servant, caregiver, and community organizer.

I'm running for City Council because I want Medford to keep moving forward for everyone.

I want to build a genuinely accessible and inclusive City where our sidewalks are always flat and maintained, and there are curb ramps at every corner. I want to develop a Medford that invests in the things that actually keep people safe: unarmed mental health crisis response, removing traffic enforcement from police responsibility, non-compliance with ICE, and improved social services offered to those in Medford who need support with groceries, childcare, rent, and other essential needs. I want a Medford that has an abundance of green space and nature in all parts of the City, a more walkable and multi-modal city, throughout all times of the year, by maintaining tree roots and keeping sidewalks clear of snow. I want a public school system that supports all students, with after-school programs, no barriers to entry for extracurricular activities, and a thriving special education department. I want to see a Medford that allows our residents to age in place and for new and long-time residents alike to continue building a life in Medford without fear of displacement due to skyrocketing rents and the construction of very little new housing.

None of which happens without money coming in from consistent and sustainable sources, such as business improvement districts and taxes, actually utilizing our free cash, and developing a budget that invests in programs that put people first. And a budget that does not do business with companies actively involved in or supporting genocide across the world.

Nobody knows everything, but together we know a lot. I would bring a new and unique skill set to the Medford City Council, with a background in urban planning, previous experience working at City Hall, non-profit advocacy work, and currently serving as a planner for MassDOT. At City Hall, I helped develop the COVID-19 Business Relief Grant program to support local businesses during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as establish the City's first Outdoor Dining protocols. Now, at MassDOT, I help connect communities and regional planning agencies with crucial federal funds to complete critical transportation projects throughout Massachusetts.
