My name is Maea Brandt and I'm running to serve our community as the next East District City Councilor.


I’m running as a Democrat, but more importantly, I’m running as a mother of children in the school system, the daughter of a refugee of the Korean War, a woman of color, a longtime community member, a proven collaborator, an artist, and a teacher.


These are the experiences I will bring to the complex issues that need solving. I will prioritize addressing: 


  • public safety and gun violence problems
  • people with mental health and addiction that need care
  • creating quality and affordable housing
  • investing in green infrastructure and climate action 
  • supporting struggling small local businesses and workers 
  • building a world-class high school


I look forward to building a large and diverse coalition of support from neighbors across Wards 1 and 8. This fight isn't going to be easy. Every dollar raised, door knocked, and neighbor called will get us one step closer to ensuring East District has reliable, pragmatic leadership.
