Hello! I'm Lisa Gordon
I decided to run because I love Newton and want to continue working hard to make our city an even better place to live, raise our families, or retire, but I am also concerned about certain issues before the City Council, including:
Zoning and development
Newton needs thriving village centers, and we must preserve and enhance what is best about our City. We also need more policies promoting housing that is more affordable. The Council’s current
proposal does not address affordable housing but does significantly increase density.
Infrastructure
Our Capital Improvement Plan needs to be updated to ensure that our roads and sidewalks are maintained. Moving through Newton should not be a frustrating experience. We need well-maintained bridges, crosswalks, sidewalks, roadways, open spaces, and fields.
Education
Investing in our schools by supporting a strong curriculum that includes our art, music, and elective programs is a necessity. We must address the needs that have arisen in our schools during the pandemic. We must also ensure that our schools do not lose the confidence and trust of our residents.
Finances
As an entrepreneur, business owner, and not-for-profit Executive Director, I will prioritize financial decisions that reflect our priorities and are also fiscally responsible and sustainable.
Tone and Moderation
Our City Council has become polarized. We need City Councilors who can discuss and decide issues that reflect broad agreement across the City. We need City Councilors who want to work with residents and colleagues to forge compromises
and develop consensus. I will be exactly that type of Councilor.
I'm ready to work for you and welcome your support!
