My name is Jorge Sanchez Bautista and I am running to be the next school board director for Zone 5 (NE Portland) on the Portland Public Schools Board of Education.
I’m a student and community organizer who has been in the Portland Public Schools system all their life. For the past couple of years, I have advocated to put young people like myself first. I have a track record of collaboration and listening to community voices. Here are some of my accomplishments:
- During the historic teacher strike in November of 2023, I led students throughout Portland to picket at their local schools and spoke on behalf of students on both sides of the aisle.
- Passed two bills (HB 4083 and SB 1503) during the 2024 short legislative session in the Oregon Legislature that focused on climate change and gun prevention work.
- Currently serve on the Oregon State Board of Education as a student advisor where I represent over 530,000 students and advise the Department of Education on ways to improve our education system.
