Fuel JMU Democrats: Convention & Campus Organizing

After an incredibly successful fall semester and helping turn Virginia blue, our organization has been everywhere. We knocked on doors, made phone calls, registered students to vote, and made civic engagement unavoidable on campus. Because of this work, we saw a 750% increase in voter turnout compared to 2023 and a 250% increase compared to 2024. Our presence at JMU is not just visible; it’s influential.

JMU Democrats host biweekly meetings and remain deeply involved in educating students about voting, especially as our district prepares for upcoming redistricting. We are committed to making sure students understand how political changes affect their voices and their futures.

Each year, Virginia Young Democrats hosts its annual convention, bringing together young organizers from across the Commonwealth. This convention is a critical space for leadership development, hands-on training, and relationship-building. Attendees gain real organizing skills, elect statewide leadership, and return home energized and ready to put that knowledge into action.

For JMU Democrats, the convention is transformative. It’s where we recruit new members, strengthen our leadership pipeline, and inspire students to commit more time to organizing and volunteering. Time and time again, students return from the convention more confident, more connected, and more dedicated to the work.

We’re hoping to take up to 10 JMU College Dems to the convention. Your donation will help us send as many students as possible to this year’s convention and support our organizing efforts throughout the rest of the semester. By removing financial barriers, you are investing directly in the next generation of leaders and ensuring that cost never prevents a student from stepping into their power. Our goal is to raise enough to cover hotel rooms for two nights, gala tickets, gas cards for those driving three or more members, and any additional general fees and expenses that arise throughout the year.

With your support, JMU Democrats will continue to mobilize students, strengthen democratic participation on campus, and build lasting political power in our community. Thank you for standing with us and helping make this work possible.
