Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef) is a next-generation social justice law firm that defends our immigrant communities against injustices in the legal system. We envision a future where no immigrant will be forced to face immigration court alone. Our programs are a first step towards the long-term goal of providing universal representation to all immigrants facing deportation.

Our organization was founded in 2015 by a group of experienced public interest immigration lawyers and our rapid growth is a testament to the need for our services in the communities we serve. Since our humble beginnings in our founder’s living rooms, our team has grown from a handful of attorneys to 200 dedicated staff members. We have expanded our office locations to respond to the needs of our clients and currently have offices in Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Ana, and San Diego. ImmDef is now the largest non‐profit, pro bono provider of deportation defense in California. Our team provides full-scale deportation defense, legal representation, legal education, and social services to approximately 30,151 detained and non-detained children and adults each year. Many of our staff are immigrants themselves or the children and grandchildren of immigrants, allowing us to draw upon deep community roots to provide culturally competent, compassionate services.

When ICE enforcement strikes, ImmDef’s Rapid Response team is on the frontline, responding around the clock to ensure no one is left without support. Beyond direct representation, they push for systemic change through impact litigation and community advocacy, challenging unfair policies and defending due process nationwide.

Our legal team has been working nonstop in response to a wave of ICE raids across Los Angeles. As soon as we received word of the enforcement activity, our attorneys mobilized and rushed to local detention centers to ensure no one was left without support. This kind of immediate action is part of our Rapid Response work—being there when it matters most, around the clock. Through the Los Angeles Rapid Response Network and our own bilingual legal hotline, we are responding to enforcement actions, connecting people to attorneys, and providing critical resources and information to vulnerable communities.

In addition to our direct legal services, we’re also deeply engaged in advocacy and community education. We work at the local, state, and national levels to challenge unjust immigration policies, expose abuses in detention centers, and demand meaningful change. We lead Know Your Rights trainings in multiple languages, support detained individuals with legal and social services, and fight every day to make sure immigrants are seen, heard, and protected.
