Hum operates as an LLC/501(c)(4) hybrid organization led by young, experienced campaign staffers of color who are committed to leveling the political playing field for BIPOC and AAPI candidates nationwide. This dual structure enables us to deliver comprehensive campaign consulting through our LLC while simultaneously conducting voter education, advocacy, and fundraising through our 501(c)(4)—providing both direct candidate services and broader civic engagement that traditional consulting firms cannot offer.
Despite Asian Americans being the fastest growing population in the United States with 25.8 million people, there are currently only 1,397 Asian American elected officials across local, state, and federal levels—a stark representation gap that reflects systemic barriers rather than lack of qualified candidates. Risk aversion, inadequate resources, and infrastructure gaps create insurmountable obstacles for everyday people seeking to run for office, while the current electoral system's exaggerated consulting costs and dark money influence further exclude qualified candidates from underserved communities. Through our model, we provide launchpads for state and local candidates across the country by delivering an affordable, interlocking foundation of messaging, organizing, and digital outreach that eliminates exorbitant political entry costs. Long-term, we're creating a campaign landscape that prioritizes efficiency and authentic community connection while building kinship networks between grassroots candidates nationwide. By centering equity, accessibility, and cultural fluency, Hum equips candidates with the tools they need to win without compromising their values.
