More about Grace:
Grace was appointed to City Council in September of 2019, after winning the May primary for a 2 year term. In 2021 she was re-elected to a 4 year term.
As a councilwoman Grace has:
- Advocated for affordable housing, the homeless, and quality of life in our neighborhoods.
-Implemented an Affordable Housing Task Force.
- Doubled the amount of ARPA funds earmarked for affordable housing and homelessness.
-Amended the City’s LERTA ordinance so that developers must build affordable housing or pay a fee in lieu to be eligible for the LERTA tax abatement
-Sponsored a resolution to assure insurance coverage for post-traumatic stress disorder care for our first responders.
- Passed legislation to ban the sale of pets from puppy mills within the city
- Introduced a responsible contractor ordinance
Grace is well qualified, having worked for county governments in 3 different counties. She started as case manager and addictions counselor (including prison counseling), moving her way up to Administrator of services in which she developed and implemented budgets with limited government funds for our most vulnerable populations, those with mental illness and developmental disabilities as well as infants and toddlers in need of early intervention services. Thus, Grace knows the vital importance of fiscal accountability of public funds!
Grace recently retired after 20 years as a high school counselor. She also taught at the community college level on the American with Disabilities Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
“I feel it vital that a mayor is accessible, responsive, transparent and accountable to ALL!!
AND that we must balance smart development with preservation of our unique history and neighborhoods, as well as housing for ALL!”
