31 Counties. Zero Providers.

The Reality of Reproductive Access in Central Wisconsin

In Rural Wisconsin, the right to choose is often a right in name only. For residents across our 31-county service area, the map is empty: there are zero abortion providers.

When someone in our community makes the decision to seek an abortion, they aren't just facing a medical appointment. They are facing a logistical and financial crisis.

  • The 4-Hour Hurdle: Many of our neighbors must travel a minimum of 4 hours one-way just to reach the nearest provider. Often for two appointments 24 hours apart.
  • The Cost of Care: Between the procedure, gas, hotels, and lost wages, the cost of an abortion can quickly become insurmountable for low-resourced families.
  • The Silent Struggle: In our deeply conservative climate, the stigma of seeking care can be as isolating as the geography itself.
We are Freedom Fund Inc.

Since 1997, we have stood in the gap. We are the bridge between a person’s decision and their ability to act on it. We provide:

  • Direct Financial Assistance: We pledge funds directly to independent clinics to cover the cost of abortion procedures, LARC (long-acting reversible contraception), and emergency contraception.
  • Practical Support: We provide funds to cover "gas in the tank," covering hotel and travel costs for those forced to leave their communities—and often their state—to access healthcare.

Why Your Support Matters Now

Freedom Fund has grown. To meet the escalating demand in our 31 counties, we have transitioned from an all-volunteer group to a professionalized organization with paid staff. This ensures that when a person calls our warmline, there is a dedicated advocate ready to navigate the 4-hour travel logistics and complex legal landscapes with them.

Traditional foundations often overlook rural areas like ours, favoring high-density urban centers. But we know that in the Northwoods, the need is just as urgent—and the barriers are even higher.

Join the Lifeline

Your donation stays here, in our community. It helps a neighbor in rural Wisconsin reclaim their bodily autonomy.

  • $50 covers emergency contraception for a person in need.
  • $150 provides the gas and meals for a 4-hour round-trip journey to a clinic.
  • $500 covers a hotel stay and a significant portion of a clinical procedure.

Help us ensure that geography never determines destiny. Support Freedom Fund today.
