As the *only* elected Democrat working in the Richland County government, Cynthia tirelessly fights for working families in southeastern Illinois. An award-winning entrepreneur, Given was elected to her first terms in 2022 as 1) member of the Richland County Board and 2) chair of the County Democratic Party without opposition.

In her first term on the county board, Cynthia secured a crucial appointment as chair of the county public safety committee. She also serves on other key county committees: labor, technology, health, and economic development. She is rapidly forging real progress in southern Illinois. From a brand-new animal control facility to expanding mental health services and recently doubling school resource officer coverage, Cynthia is getting things done. She asks tough questions and saved taxpayers thousands of dollars this year by choosing an experienced, reputable local company to design our new county government website. Cynthia Given shows up. Even when she was literally fighting for her life with cancer, a 15-pound tumor, and a saddle pulmonary embolism, Given virtually attended the single board meeting she missed (via speakerphone in the ICU). Cynthia Given is 100% committed to serving the hard-working people of southern Illinois.
