Chenette for County Commissioner

Accessibility. Transparency. Accountability.

These are the things I successfully fought to advance for 8 years as your Senator and Representative. As chairman of the Government Oversight Committee, I had a key role in holding agencies and departments accountable to ensure effectiveness of programs and to safeguard taxpayer dollars.

I stirred up what the late great John Lewis referred to as good trouble, necessary trouble. To push the system to do better, for our government to be better, for you, for all of us. Leadership isn’t about just doing enough to skirt by until the next election. It’s about bold action.

It is with this conviction that fuels my desire to continue my passion for public service. This time, turning my attention to an office a little closer to home.

For far too long, county government has been out of sight and out of mind. No one seems to know what is going on. Just defining what our county commission does and who our county commissioner is would be enough to give most people a headache.

This directly stems from a lack of leadership and engagement. We should expect more than just the bare minimum from our elected officials.

  • We should expect county commission meetings, public hearings, and workshops held when average working Mainers can attend. Not during the work day.
  • We should expect frequent updates around important decisions on social media, columns, and email newsletters.
  • We should expect opportunities to provide direct feedback through monthly office hours.
  • We should expect a county website that’s actually updated with commissioner information.
  • We should expect a county commissioner who works collaboratively with our municipal, legislative, and federal counterparts to advocate for progress.
  • We should expect a county commissioner who is visible and actively involved in the communities they are supposed to represent.

It’s time for a new generation of leadership on the county commission. It’s time to add some diverse voices to the table. It’s time to shake things up once again.

I’m running to be your next county commissioner to fight every single day for a more accessible, transparent, and accountable government.

Because we deserve a county government that’s accountable to you. I hope you’ll join me.
