Afroz is the daughter of parents who immigrated to the United States in the early 1960's from India. She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and lived in several other states before calling Massachusetts her home.


A resident of Newburyport since 2005, Afroz Khan is eager to serve a fifth term on the Newburyport City Council.


During her years on the City Council, Afroz has co-sponsored orders/ordinances focused on senior tax benefits, resolutions on sewage discharge and transgender rights, waste management policy and transparency in public meetings.


Afroz works in the field of energy efficiency specifically around the evaluation of rate-payer programs offered by gas and electric utilities.


She and her husband, Ahmer Ibrahim have two daughters, Arissa (19) and Anya (16). Both born and raised in Newburyport.
